ABOVE: Dressy in sun-bright yellow 100 percent silk taffeta, these draperies from The Silk Drapery
Co. are lined and interlined and feature double-width panels heavily gathered with goblet pleats on
wooden rings. An off-white sheer completes the look.
Robert Allen/Beacon Hill gives us its Silk Hues
III and IV, with textured solids such as “Dotted
Stripes” in russet, “Cameo Frame” in blackberry and
“Silk Texture” in the color “Adriatic.” And in the
classic and innovative fashions from Barbara Barry,
look for her creations for Kravet, including
“Palomino,” a reversible black-and-tan pattern in
steamed 100 percent silk, and “Bamboo,” an extraordinary
hand-painted 100 percent silk beauty.
SILK TIPS
In the hot Dallas summertime, you need to take
extra care of your silk.
“You have to be very careful with direct sunlight
and silk,” Kaminska says. “Silk is a very strong fabric,
but strong sunlight can hurt it.”

light help keep silk from fading, as does lining
your silk draperies.
Silks are available in a range of pricing options,
from Doupionis on the more affordable end to
embroidered, textured, raw and printed silks on
the more expensive end. Doupionis come mainly
in solid colors, but usually have a wide color
selection. Varieties of more expensive silks include
organzines, tussahs and taffeta.
“Silk is such a fantastic fiber,” Kaminska
says. “It takes to dye stuff like no other fiber.
You shouldn’t just think of fancy, you should
think of strong.”
Silk, depending on how it’s spun and woven,
can be used to give a very dry or shiny look.
“There’s just an endless variety to silk,”
Kaminska says.
