Summertime means
clear blue cloudless
skies, pink and orange popsicles
and just-mowed green lawns — the
same cheerful color assortment for
this season’s silks that offer light,
clean options for draperies.
REFRESHING COLORS
“The palette is brighter,” says Julie
Kaminska, design director for
national silk manufacturer and
design firm Scalamandré. “It’s not
super, super bright, but very clear
and clean. It’s a refreshing palette for
the summer.”
Stacy Senior, marketing
director for national wallpaper and
fabric manufacturer and design firm
Thibaut, agrees. “The brighter,
fresher color silks,” are in, Senior
reports. “Not just the neutrals,
which have been popular, and not
just the aquas, which have been hot.
Blue is popular all around. Light
blue aqua has become a mainstay color.”
And blue mixes well, too, with the popular peony, strawberry
and hydrangea hues.
“We see that moving into other blues, and we also see aqua
being paired with different colors,” Senior says, like pink or a
soft green.
Christy Sullivan, owner of Christy’s Draperies, a custom drapery
store with three locations in the Metroplex, says silks have
always been popular. “They have a certain look you can’t get with
anything else,” she adds.
Sullivan sees aqua blues and light shades of green mixed with
browns and gold. “Chocolate silks look good paired with teals and
greens. Green is a soothing color. It’s uplifting, light and airy, and
has a fresh look,” she says. “Even pinks are big right now.”
PRETTY PATTERNS, SHIMMERY SOLIDS
“We definitely see people having more fun with prints in general,”
Senior says. “People are just coming around to color. People are
tired of beige.”
Thibaut’s new “Tea House” wallpaper and fabric collection goes
beyond the beige limits in its combination of Asian elegance with
a modern twist. In the floral design, “Lanterns,” celebratory
Chinese lanterns with tassles dangle from vining branches, and
butterflies and dragonflies flutter about. Besides white, “Lanterns”
is available on soft aqua, light blue and bright yellow backgrounds.
From Scalamandré, “Kuba” in 100 percent sheer silk glows in
five colorways. Inspired by the African Kuba cloth, the appliquéd
and embroidered fabric of the Kuba people, Scalamandré’s shimmering
raw silk brings modern safari glamour to interior spaces.
In more traditional fashion and a salute to stripes, and gorgeous
stripes at that, Scalamandré offers its new “Province” 100
percent grouping. Great color combinations include Tyrrhenian
Blue & Amaretto, Soft Gold & Florentine Green and Porcelain
& Amethyst.
